Stupid Question
My wife and I are watching “Criminal Minds” on TV (It’s a great show. We both love it.) when towards the end of the program the two actors are talking about personal issues. The one guy’s wife had left him because of his work. So my wife turns to me and asks “If I worked in the Behavioral Analysis Department at the FBI would you leave me?”
Caught off guard I said “Huh?”
She repeated her question and I just stared at her. It was not that I didn’t have an answer, I was just caught off guard with the question and how stupid it was. It has been a long time since she said something of this nature to me. Early in our marriage it was all kinds of “what if” scenarios with her. What if I were to get into a car accident and die? Would you get remarried? What if something happened to me and my legs would get amputated? Would you leave me? What if I was horribly burned on my face and plastic surgery could not fix my face. Would you leave me? I actually answered this on by telling her that we would then only make love at night so that we can turn the lights off. Needless to say it was a few weeks before I got any again.
Silly, stupid questions like this I don’t have time for. They don’t serve any purpose. All they end up doing is getting me into trouble. There is no correct answer for me to give. Every answer is wrong.
To answer this question I told her that thankfully she is not an FBI agent that works in the BA Unit so we don’t ever have to worry about this ever happening. I gave her a little kiss on the top of her head and went to bed.
She followed me up to bed a few moments later, called me an idiot and rolled over to sleep.
I can’t win.
