Bumper Stickers are Spam
Filed under: Ramblings, annoy, annoying, blog, blogging, blogs, commentary, observation, society, thought, thoughts |
I don’t get bumper stickers? Why do people mark up their vehicles? What makes you think I have a desire to look at or read what is on your vehicle? Most of the time I can’t even read it anyway. Most are written so small that my average eyes cannot read it unless I am at a red light, pulled up to just centimeters off your back bumper, leaning forward in my seat over the steering wheel and squinting while trying to focus on your anti-abortion, save the whales, eat less meat, rock band, local radio station, Sh!t Happens, dancing Gratetful Dead bear, remember 9/11, I love doggie-style, proud parent of a middle school honors student, vote for Kerry, give peace a chance, support our troops, I love Dale and my dog is a Cockapoodle.
These things are like spam. Not the meat, but the unsolicited or undesired bulk eletronic messages. They are like computer pop-ups except that you cannot just click the X to get rid of them. You sometimes can’t avoid them especially if there are many, many stickers. I can easily tune out a car that has one or two (which is 2 too many in my opinion) but if a car has a dozen, you are forced to look. It is like a bad accident, you don’t want to look but you do anyway because you don’t want to miss anything.
I don’t understand why people would do that to their vehicles. And if I do try to pull up to read these messages, the driver of the car glares at me through their rear-view mirror and starts to think I am trying to mess with them. At which point, when the light turns green, they begin to drive 10 mph below the posted speed limit just to mess back with me. There is no driver hand signal for “I’m just trying to read your bumper stickers.” There are really only 3 hand signals for driving but I will save that for another post.
I guess this is enough Rambling for one day.
