The day began at 3:30 am for me and my gang. For the most part that is way too early for me. Or anyone else for that matter. Today was race day. NASCAR. Dover.
After packing up the van the gang and I headed for the WAWA and purcahsed bags of ice, orange juice and the morning newspaper. Unfortunately the morning paper had yet to arrive.
We made the hour drive to Dover. A few members of the gang were trying to catch a bit more sleep. I was awake for the drive. Good thing too since I was the driver.
After eating at the track’s breakfast buffet we made our war around the perimeter of the track to view the track-side activities and shop the souvenir trailers. That is when it had started to rain. It was about 9:00 am and rain. In 15 years of going to Dover never can I remember a Dover race rained out. But it did happen. Today the race got rained out.
We had to wait all morningand into the early afternoon before we received the announcement that the race was postponed. Now here is the kicker, I can’t even go tomorrow. I have to work. I have to be on location 3 states away. The rest of my gang is going but me, I will be working.
Such is life.
Let me tell you, it is hell getting up at 3:30 am driving to the race only to have to drive home and then turn around in the same afternoon and driving for 6 hours. I am beyond beat.
Right now I am about an hour away from my destination. I could not drive any farther. I just could not push myself. While driving I could feel fatigue kick in. Just not worth it trying to push on for one more hour. So here I am trying to wind down before bed.
And on that note…… I am off to bed.
